WESTCHESTER CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET MOVES JUNE 6TH TO WESTCHESTER PARK
After 14-years in the Westchester Triangle, the Westchester Certified Farmers Market is moving to a new location. Westchester Park will be the new home of the Farmers’ Market beginning on Wednesday, June 6th. 'We would much rather stay where we are in the Triangle, but that is no longer an option for us', says Renate Hild, President of the Westchester Vitalization Corporation, the sponsors of the Farmers' Market. 'After years of strained relations with commercial property owners, who control the parking lot through the Westchester Parking Association, we have been told that Market customers are unauthorized users of the parking lot.' According to Hild, the Parking Association has advised them that they will exercise their right to have Market customers ticketed and towed.
Thanks to the efforts of the Council Office and John Brady from the Office of the Mayor, the Market now has a place to relocate and the new location is the only change. The Westchester Certified Farmers Market will still operate every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 8:30 A. M. until 1:00 P. M. The Market will be located on the west side of Westchester Park just off Lincoln Blvd. and adjacent to the Park’s swimming pool. There is plenty of parking for our customers in the parking lot adjacent to the swimming pool or on Manchester Avenue.
Market customers will continue to find an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, plants, dried fruits, nuts, KettleKorn and lots more from the same farmers and vendors who served them at the Triangle location. Lunchtime customers can still enjoy their favorite lunch at one of our fabulous prepared food vendors; and don’t forget those bakery items.
According to Heather Lemmon, Market Administrator for Westchester Vitalization, now is a good time to shop for strawberries, tomatoes, peaches, nectarines and much, much more. They are ripe, delicious, healthy and wholesome. What more could you ask for?
For twenty-seven years, the directors of the Westchester Vitalization Corporation have worked to improve the local business environment in a manner that complements the strength of the residential neighborhoods of Westchester and Playa del Rey. The income stream generated by the Farmers’ Market is filtered back into the community, providing financial support for a variety of community projects, organizations and special events.
So come on over and support the Westchester Certified Farmers Market and welcome the farmers and vendors to their new location. The Farmers’ Market is good for the community and it’s good for you. What could be better than taking a walk through the park and shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables or enjoying lunch at the Farmers’ Market each week? For more information, please call (310) 582-5850.
